Kikkeren: The great frog game

๐ŸŸก Rules of Kikkeren

The game is played on a traditional pocketless billiard table using three balls: a white ball, a yellow ball and a red ball.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ Number of Players and Basic Rules

The game can be played by two, three or four players.

With four players, two teams are formed and compete against each other. With two or three players, everyone plays individually.

All players use the yellow ball as the cue ball.

At the start of each turn, the player announces which figure they are going to attempt. The player scores one point if:

  • both the white and red balls are struck;
  • the balls are struck in the correct order for the announced figure;
  • the correct number of cushions is used.

After scoring a point, the player may continue and announce a new figure.

๐Ÿ End of the Game

Team Play

Each team has a maximum of 20 turns. The team with the highest score wins.

A team wins immediately if it completes all seven figures five times.

If the losing team did not start the game, it is allowed one final turn. During this turn, the team may try to complete the remaining figures and achieve a draw.

Individual Play

Each player has a maximum of 30 turns. The player with the highest score wins.

A player wins immediately after completing all seven figures five times.

If the losing player did not start the game, that player is allowed one final turn to complete the remaining figures and achieve a draw.

๐ŸŽจ The Seven Figures

1. Frog (Kikker)

The yellow ball must strike both the red and white balls without any ball touching a cushion.

As soon as one of the balls touches a cushion, the attempt has failed.

2. Red First

The yellow ball must strike the red ball first and then the white ball.

The yellow ball may touch one or more cushions during the shot. The red ball may also be struck more than once.

3. Direct

The yellow ball must strike both the red and white balls without first touching a cushion.

After both balls have been struck, the yellow ball may still touch one or more cushions.

4. One Cushion

The yellow ball must touch exactly one cushion before striking the second ball.

After the second ball has been struck, additional cushions may be touched.

5. Two Cushions

The yellow ball must touch exactly two cushions before striking the second ball.

6. Three Cushions

The yellow ball must touch at least three cushions before striking the second ball.

7. Cushion First

The yellow ball must touch one or more cushions before striking either of the other balls.
